The Controller will play a key hands-on role within the Bermuda finance function, with primary responsibility for technical accounting, statutory reporting, general ledger accuracy, and deal onboarding activities. This role supports the CFO and Head of Finance by ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of financial records and regulatory filings, including the Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirement (BSCR) and related BMA statutory obligations.


The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, deep familiarity with Bermuda regulatory reporting, and the ability to execute detailed financial processes with precision. This position is suited for a technically strong accountant who excels in producing high-quality work, managing complex reporting requirements, and supporting transaction-driven activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation, validation, and submission of BSCR filings, BMA statutory financial returns, and other regulatory submissions and maintain documentation and controls to support regulatory filings.
  • Monitor regulatory changes impacting statutory financial reporting and support implementation of updates.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records to comply with UK GAAP and align with RiverStone’s group-wide policies to maintain consistency across jurisdictions.
  • Work closely with the Group and its affiliated entities on financial reporting, regulatory compliance, transaction onboarding and various other strategic projects.
  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement support schedules.
  • Perform technical accounting analysis for new reinsurance transactions, reserves, and other      relevant arrangements.
  • Prepare solvency projections in advance of new transactions including Economic Balance Sheet adjustments
  • Collaborate with other functions to align financial and capital projections
  • Create and maintain financial models to compare actual to expected financial, solvency and liquidity results
  • Execute general ledger activities including book entries, chart-of-accounts upkeep, and transaction inputs with strong attention to detail.
  • Maintain high-quality controls and documentation around accounting and finance processes.
  • Support audit activities by preparing working papers, reconciliations, and other relevant documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Support new deal onboarding, including data validation, ledger set-up, mapping exercises, and reconciliation of opening balances.
  • Participate in and lead components of user acceptance testing (UAT) for new systems, process changes, or integrations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (investments, actuarial, claims, operations, IT) to ensure complete and accurate financial data capture.
  • Collaborate on finance transformation initiatives aimed at improving data quality, system integration, and process efficiency at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent) required.
  • 5–8+ years of progressive experience, ideally including public accounting experience up to the Manager level or equivalent technical accounting exposure.
  • Strong experience with Bermuda BMA regulatory reporting, including BSCR and statutory returns.
  • Demonstrated expertise in UK GAAP, US GAAP, or IFRS within insurance or reinsurance.
  • Strong general ledger and journal entry skills, with a rigorous approach to accuracy and controls.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities; experience with large data sets and complex reconciliations.
  • Experience with UAT, systems testing, onboarding new transactions, or integration of acquired portfolios.
  • Investment Accounting experience advantageous 
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment.
  • Willing to work at both a transactional and strategic level
  • Prior experience within the insurance or reinsurance industries required.
  • Prior experience in the legacy space highly advantageous.
